In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves through Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the state’s Sole Administrator, has suspended all political appointees and officeholders with immediate effect.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Chief of Staff to the Administrator confirmed that this bold action was taken under the authority granted by President Bola Tinubu.

The sweeping suspension impacts several high-ranking officials, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff, commissioners, board chairpersons, agency heads, and special advisers at all levels. Even Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants are not spared.

The suspended officials have been instructed to hand over their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). In cases where no Permanent Secretary is present, leadership will pass to the most senior Director or Head of Administration.

This unexpected shake-up raises questions about the future direction of governance in the state and what this could mean for the political landscape of Rivers. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
