Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has firmly denied rumors suggesting that he has already selected a candidate to succeed him in the 2027 governorship election. In a statement made on Wednesday in Lafia, the state capital, Governor Sule’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, dismissed the speculation as completely baseless and an attempt to tarnish the governor’s image.
Addressing journalists, Ahemba emphasized that the governor remains focused on his current responsibilities and will not be distracted by political rumors or individuals with ulterior motives. “Governor Abdullahi Sule has no anointed candidate for the 2027 election. Any appointee or official backing such claims will be seen as insubordinate and will not be tolerated,” Ahemba asserted.
He further clarified that the people of Nasarawa State will have the final say on who governs them come 2027. “At the right time, the people will decide their next leader,” he said, urging the public to ignore any politician claiming to be the governor’s choice for the upcoming election. Ahemba stressed that Sule still has over two years left in his term to deliver on promises and bring more development to the state.
In addition to addressing the political rumors, Ahemba announced a ban on any form of campaigning for the 2027 election, warning civil servants and government appointees to refrain from engaging in partisan politics during office, or face the consequences. This move, he said, is intended to maintain focus on governance and ensure that government activities are not hindered by electioneering.
Ahemba also spoke on the state’s security strategy, revealing that Nasarawa has adopted a community-based approach to improve coordination with security agencies and local leaders. This initiative aims to foster long-term peace and stability across the state’s 13 local government areas.
To further strengthen unity and promote peaceful coexistence, Ahemba called on traditional rulers, religious, and community leaders to play a key role in facilitating open dialogue and helping the government address the people’s challenges effectively.
As the 2027 election looms closer, it is clear that Governor Sule is determined to keep his focus on governance, free from distractions, while ensuring that Nasarawa State continues to thrive.
