Liverpool took a massive step towards reclaiming the Premier League title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday. The win sends the Reds 11 points clear at the top, leaving their rivals scrambling to keep up.
Mohamed Salah once again proved why he’s Liverpool’s talisman, netting his 30th goal of the season before setting up Dominik Szoboszlai for a clinical second just before halftime.
For City, it was a second painful blow in a matter of days following their Champions League exit to Real Madrid. Pep Guardiola’s side now sits a staggering 20 points behind the leaders, signaling the end of their title reign.

Salah and Szoboszlai Run the Show
City had no answer for Liverpool’s well-drilled attack. Salah’s opener came in the 14th minute from a perfectly executed set-piece—Alexis Mac Allister’s corner was flicked on by Szoboszlai into Salah’s path, and the Egyptian’s strike deflected off Nathan Ake past Ederson.
At the other end, City’s attacking efforts lacked bite. Jeremy Doku repeatedly found space against Trent Alexander-Arnold but failed to deliver anything meaningful, while Erling Haaland’s absence loomed large.
Liverpool’s second goal came in ruthless fashion. Salah sprinted onto a long ball and unselfishly squared it for Szoboszlai, who sent Ederson the wrong way to double the lead.
City Left in the Dust
Liverpool could have piled on more misery in the second half. Curtis Jones had a goal ruled out by VAR, while Luis Díaz forced a spectacular save from Ederson. Szoboszlai came close again, only to be denied by a last-ditch tackle from Abdukodir Khusanov.
Despite controlling nearly 70% of possession, City’s attack lacked the killer instinct. Omar Marmoush was their biggest threat, flashing a shot across Alisson Becker’s goal, but it was too little, too late.
