Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has slammed popular matchmaker and social media personality Lege Miami after the artist criticized Nigerian footballers by commenting on his late father.
Lege Miami, known for his uncompromising online presence, re-entered the social media controversy after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, praising several players, such as Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Fredrick, and Calvin Bassey, while condemning others.
Despite Nwabali’s heroic performance—saving two penalties in the playoff loss to the Democratic Republic of the Congo—Lege Miami continued to criticize him, referencing the goalkeeper’s late father, who was recently buried.
The comments crossed all lines, and the Chippa United goalkeeper posted a stern warning on Instagram.
“Lege Miami, remove my late father’s name from your mouth when creating content. If you don’t learn to respect someone’s father, you should respect the dead. I’m not your typical footballer, I will beat you mercilessly. You can insult me, but remove my late father’s name from your mouth,” Nwabali wrote.
In a quick response, Lege Miami reposted Nwabali’s warning and doubled down, claiming that the goalkeeper owes Nigerians an apology.
“@nwabali32, you came to me in private to insult my personality because I corrected your mistakes. Anyway, I just want to say that you need to make a video apologizing to Nigerians,” he said.
The online dispute has divided fans. Many are defending Nwabali for standing up for his late father, while others are arguing that footballers should learn to take criticism in stride.
As tensions continue to rise, the incident has sparked new discussions about celebrity comments, players’ mental health and the limits of online criticism of Nigerian football.
