Manchester United’s struggles under Ruben Amorim continue, and according to outspoken pundit Richard Keys, the Portuguese coach already looks fed up with life at Old Trafford.
Since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November, Amorim has failed to spark a turnaround, leaving United sitting in an unthinkable 15th place after 25 Premier League games. His record so far makes him statistically the worst United manager of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, although his tenure is still young.
Club legend Rio Ferdinand has even warned that if things don’t improve, United could find themselves in a relegation battle—a shocking reality for a club of their stature. While they still have a 12-point cushion above the drop zone, concerns over team morale and dressing-room unrest are mounting.
After another disappointing defeat to Tottenham, Amorim admitted that his job is “so, so hard,” adding fuel to speculation that he is struggling to get his message across to the squad.
Richard Keys: “Amorim Doesn’t Want to Be There”
Veteran broadcaster Richard Keys didn’t hold back in his assessment of United’s ongoing crisis, claiming Amorim looks completely disillusioned with the club’s situation.
“They’ve got a manager who clearly doesn’t want to be there, a cycling expert in charge of football matters, and an owner flailing about without a clue what to do next except sack more good people,” Keys wrote in his blog.
Despite United’s billion-pound spending spree in recent years, they remain miles away from competing with the Premier League’s elite, and according to Keys, the problems run much deeper than just the head coach.
With uncertainty surrounding Amorim’s future and growing frustration among fans, the coming weeks could be decisive in shaping United’s turbulent season.
