A tragic accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl, while her 15-year-old sister remains in critical condition after being struck by a speeding driver on Monday.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the heartbreaking incident, which occurred around 3:35 p.m. at Ogundare Bus-Stop.

According to Hundeyin, the driver, whose identity remains unknown, was recklessly speeding on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane when he hit the two siblings as they were returning home from school.

“The impact left both girls with severe injuries, and they were immediately rushed to Orile Agege General Hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, the 12-year-old succumbed to her injuries, while her sister has been transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for further medical care,” Hundeyin said.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, has expressed deep condolences to the grieving family and assured them of a thorough investigation to bring the driver to justice.

“The police command has already launched a full-scale investigation into the matter, and we urge motorists to adhere strictly to traffic laws, observe speed limits, and prioritize pedestrian safety,” the CP stated.

Authorities have vowed to get to the bottom of the case, emphasizing that reckless driving and disregard for traffic laws will not be tolerated.
