Former Super Eagles and Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to tithing, stating that he will always dedicate 10% of his earnings to God, no matter how much he makes.
Speaking on the Rash4Christ Podcast, Ighalo reflected on his journey of faith, revealing that he has been tithing since his early days as a 16-year-old footballer at Julius Berger, when he earned just ₦15,000 monthly.
“My pastor taught me about tithing, and since then, I have never missed paying my tithe,” he shared.
However, Ighalo admitted that he faced a real test of faith when he moved to China, where his salary saw a massive boost.
“The devil tried to play with my mind when I saw the amount I had to tithe. I hesitated before sending the money,” he confessed.
Through prayer, he overcame his doubts, recalling how God reminded him to stay true to his principles.
“God told me, ‘Don’t change the winning formula. If you can be faithful with little, you will be faithful with any amount.’ That was all the confirmation I needed,” he added.
For Ighalo, tithing is a matter of faith, not public debate. Addressing skeptics who argue that tithes only benefit pastors, he remained firm in his conviction.
“I do it according to the word of God. What happens after is not my concern,” he concluded.
