Drama as Singer Portable Lands in Kwara Prison Over Bail Conditions

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable, whose real name is Okikiola Badmus, has been remanded in prison. He is currently being held at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The development came after Portable failed to meet the strict bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court in the state.

Why Was Portable Arrested?

Portable appeared in court on Monday. He is facing charges of defamation brought against him by veteran Fuji artist Akorede Saheed, popularly known as Saheed Osupa.

The court granted the singer bail for ₦1 million. However, his release is tied to meeting several conditions, which he has not been able to fulfil.

The Bail Conditions That Landed Him in Prison

Portable was asked to provide two sureties. Each surety must also commit ₦1 million.

The court added extra requirements:

  • One surety must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN)

  • The other must own a property located in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin

  • The property owner must show a valid Certificate of Occupancy

These conditions have proven difficult for the singer to meet, leading to his remand in custody.

What Happens Next?

Portable is known for his street-style music and viral personality. However, this legal trouble may affect his career and public image.

His team has not yet released an official statement. It is also unclear whether they plan to appeal the bail terms or seek alternative legal options.
