MTN Nigeria has confirmed a recent cyber attack on its network—but the good news? Nigerian operations were not affected.
In a statement released Thursday, the telecom giant revealed it had detected unauthorized activity on its systems. The breach triggered a swift response from MTN’s security team, who managed to isolate the incident before any major damage could be done.
MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola reassured customers and stakeholders, stating that core services, customer data, and essential infrastructure remained untouched.
“We take cybersecurity extremely seriously,” Toriola emphasized. “Although the attackers tried to breach our systems, our defense protocols worked. The integrity of our network in Nigeria remains solid.”
While the company did not reveal the specific details or origin of the cyberattack, tech analysts note that telecom companies in Africa have increasingly become targets due to their large subscriber bases and the continent’s growing reliance on digital technology.
An insider confirmed to journalists that Nigeria was not impacted, helping to calm nerves amid rising concerns about data breaches in the digital age.
