American rapper Onika Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, is scheduled to speak at a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, where she is expected to discuss reported jihadist attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria.

Minaj will appear alongside the United States Ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, and Alex Bruesewitz, a senior adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump and organizer of the event.

The development was first disclosed on Sunday by Eric Cortellessa, senior political correspondent at Time magazine, via his X handle.

Confirming her participation, Ambassador Waltz praised Minaj as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.” He added that he appreciated her willingness to draw global attention to what he described as “atrocities against Christians in Nigeria.”

Minaj, responding to Waltz’s remarks, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and said she regarded it as a serious responsibility. She emphasized that she would “never stand down in the face of injustice,” noting that her global influence comes with a higher purpose.

The upcoming event follows recent claims by President Trump alleging an ongoing “Christian genocide” in Nigeria and his declaration that the country would be designated a “Country of Particular Concern.” He also urged Congress to take swift action—comments Minaj publicly applauded.

Nigeria’s Federal Government has firmly rejected the allegations of religious persecution, insisting that the country’s security challenges are driven by criminality rather than religious motives. Despite this stance, U.S. officials continue to raise concerns over the situation.
