The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, assuring that the police will intensify efforts until full security is restored.

Egbetokun gave the assurance on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, describing the incident as a painful setback for the state and a disturbing assault on education.

“It saddens me to come to Kebbi under such circumstances. We know the weight this incident has placed on the people of Danko-Wasagu and the entire state. The situation is grave, and we do not take it lightly,” he said.

The IGP described the attack as a deliberate act of terror aimed at intimidating communities and disrupting learning, adding that the police have stepped up deployments and enhanced intelligence coordination with other security agencies.

“The raid on the school in Maga goes beyond criminality. It is an attempt to intimidate us and deny children their right to education. We have expanded our operational reach to counter these threats,” he stated.

Egbetokun stressed that securing Kebbi State remains central to the stability of the Northwest and the broader national security framework.

“When Kebbi is secure, the Northwest is more stable—and so is Nigeria,” he noted.

He pledged continued collaboration with the state government and security partners to track the perpetrators and bolster protection for vulnerable communities.

Governor Idris, while appreciating the IGP’s swift visit, praised the police and other security agencies for their dedication.

“We are grateful for your support and rapid response. Kebbi State remains committed to working closely with the police to strengthen security across all our communities,” the governor said.

Idris also acknowledged the recent deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers and other assets to high-risk zones, noting that the state had enjoyed relative peace before the latest attack. He reaffirmed the government’s readiness to support federal efforts aimed at tackling banditry and restoring long-term stability.
