The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, was hospitalized in London after reports of a sudden collapse that forced him to suspend his duties.
Sources said Akpabio fell ill on December 10 and was flown abroad for urgent medical attention. His health condition led to his absence from a crucial Senate meeting on the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).
During his absence, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi represented the Senate Presidency during the budget meeting. Akpabio was last seen in public on December 9, when he presided over the Senate’s approval of the deployment of Nigerian troops to Benin.
No official statement has been issued regarding his health as Nigerians closely monitor developments surrounding the leadership of the upper house of parliament.
