The Borno State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman after operatives uncovered a large quantity of tramadol capsules concealed in a sack of ground maize at a motor park in Maiduguri, as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the state.

According to the police, the suspect was intercepted at the Baga Road Motor Park following intelligence-driven operations by personnel attached to the State Intelligence Department. The arrest occurred on the evening of January 20, when officers acting on credible information stopped the woman while she was preparing to transport the consignment.

A search conducted by the operatives revealed a black sack containing ground maize, locally known as garri-masara. Further inspection uncovered 89 sachets of tramadol capsules carefully hidden within the food item in an apparent attempt to evade detection.

The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Naziru Abdulmajid, disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated the suspect was acting on the instructions of her uncle, who allegedly handed her the sack for onward delivery to Damasak Local Government Area. Police findings further suggested that the assignment was not her first involvement in the transportation of illicit substances.

Police authorities confirmed that the suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in custody while investigations continue. Efforts are also underway to apprehend other individuals connected to the illegal drug distribution network.
