The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of the remaining 13 victims abducted during a recent attack on a commercial bus in Otukpo Local Government Area.
The announcement was made early Sunday, bringing relief to families and residents who had waited anxiously for updates on the victims.
Police authorities also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police would brief journalists later in the day on details surrounding the rescue mission.
The victims were kidnapped after armed men reportedly attacked a Benue Links bus on Wednesday night.
According to reports, the attackers stopped the vehicle, dispossessed passengers of valuables and forcefully took several travellers into a nearby forest.
Security operatives later launched coordinated search efforts across affected areas.
Earlier reports had stated that some of the victims were young travellers heading for examination-related activities. However, officials later dismissed claims that they were part of any organised UTME candidate convoy.
Police clarified that those involved were regular passengers travelling on a Makurdi-bound commercial bus.
Before the latest rescue, two abducted passengers had reportedly escaped from captivity.
Authorities also confirmed that 15 other rescued victims had already been moved to Makurdi, where they were received under security supervision ahead of official presentation to Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Meanwhile, police said seven suspects connected to the abduction had been arrested.
Investigators noted that intelligence gathering during the operation helped security teams track and detain the suspects.
The arrested individuals are currently in custody while investigations continue.
Security forces also carried out targeted operations in Amla Forest and nearby locations believed to be linked to the kidnappers.
Some rescued victims were said to be receiving medical attention following the ordeal.
The latest development has been welcomed by residents, who praised the joint security response and called for stronger protection on highways.
Kidnapping attacks on roads have remained a growing concern in several parts of the country, with travellers often targeted by armed gangs.
Residents urged authorities to sustain pressure on criminal groups and improve passenger safety across Benue and neighbouring states.
