Nigeria’s crude oil production increased to approximately 1.56 million barrels per day in June, marking the country’s highest production level since April 2020 and exceeding its production quota under the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The rise in output was attributed to improved security along oil pipeline corridors and a reduction in operational disruptions that had previously affected production activities in key oil-producing areas.

The increase represents a significant development for Africa’s largest oil producer, which has in recent years struggled with challenges including crude theft, pipeline vandalism and production interruptions that contributed to lower output levels.

Industry observers note that sustained growth in oil production could strengthen government revenues and improve Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings, given the country’s heavy dependence on crude exports as a major source of public income and foreign currency inflows.

The latest production figures place Nigeria above its allocated OPEC production target, potentially strengthening the country’s position within the oil-producing bloc while supporting broader economic recovery efforts.
