The United States has unveiled its updated list of countries eligible for the 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP), with some notable exclusions and additions. While the United Kingdom no longer enjoys general eligibility, it remains eligible under specific conditions. Meanwhile, Nigeria, along with other African nations, has once again been left out.
A significant update to the program is the inclusion of Romania, signaling strengthened diplomatic ties and an emphasis on border security cooperation. The VWP allows citizens from participating countries to travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days without a visa for tourism, business, or transit, provided they obtain Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval beforehand.
The current list features 40 eligible countries, including Australia, Germany, Japan, France, and newly added Romania. Despite hopes for expanded access, African nations like Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa remain ineligible, reinforcing the continued visa requirements for travelers from the continent.
