Wike Drops the Hammer: PDP Loses Abuja Secretariat Land Over 20-Year Debt

Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land title of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s long-abandoned National Secretariat in Abuja’s prime Central Business District.

The 12-story building project, which has stood incomplete for nearly two decades, was initially budgeted at ₦16 billion in 2008. Despite the party reportedly raising over ₦62 billion through various fundraising efforts—including high-profile dinners and multiple election cycles—the towering structure remains an unfinished relic.

A letter dated March 13, 2025, signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijoke Nwankwoeze, and addressed to PDP’s National Chairman, confirmed the revocation.

According to the letter, the decision was made due to PDP’s failure to pay ground rent on the property for 20 years—from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025—despite multiple public notices urging defaulters to settle their debts.

“The property has now reverted to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), which will take immediate possession,” the letter stated.

The PDP is yet to issue an official response to this dramatic development.
