Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has been ruled out of next week’s crucial Champions League quarter-final first leg against Inter Milan due to a hamstring injury. The 22-year-old midfielder sustained the injury during Bayern’s 3-1 win over Augsburg on Friday, which saw him substituted in the second half.
Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the setback, stating that Musiala’s condition “doesn’t look so brilliant,” and he will not be fit for the clash with Inter on Tuesday.
Musiala, who has been a key figure in Bayern’s midfield this season, suffered the injury while attempting to control a high pass. He immediately signaled to the bench for assistance before being helped off the pitch and replaced by veteran Thomas Mueller.
This injury adds to Bayern’s growing list of absentees, with defenders Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, and Hiroki Ito also likely to miss the rest of the season. The team is also without goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, winger Kingsley Coman, and midfielder Aleksander Pavlovic.
Despite the injury crisis, Bayern extended their Bundesliga lead to nine points over defending champions Bayer Leverkusen. The Bavarian giants will now face Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at home on Tuesday, with the return leg scheduled for the following Wednesday in Italy. The final of this season’s Champions League will be hosted at Bayern’s Allianz Arena.
