A troubling message circulating in WhatsApp groups linked to Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission and former Ogun State Governor, has raised alarms. The message, reportedly directed at former Ogun Governor Gbenga Daniel, contains a direct threat against human rights activist Omoyele Sowore.
The text reads: “Someone needs to treat ASAP the f*** up of this cretin called Yele Sowore…,” following Sowore’s Facebook post accusing the Ogun State political elite of rewarding individuals involved in killings.
Sowore’s post specifically called out those involved in murders in Ogun State, allegedly at the behest of Daniel, and noted how these individuals have been relocated to Lagos and Abuja, receiving high-profile positions as rewards. He questioned, “How many more lives must be lost before we collectively take a stand against their murderous actions?”—a call for revolution under his #RevolutionNow campaign.
The message has sparked widespread outrage, with concerns about the increasing threats faced by activists in Nigeria.
