Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Hit with Two-Match Ban After Derby Drama

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been slapped with a two-match touchline ban and a hefty £70,000 fine following his heated confrontation with officials after the Merseyside derby against Everton on February 12.

The fiery encounter at Goodison Park ended in chaos after James Tarkowski’s last-gasp equalizer secured a 2-2 draw for Everton. The dramatic goal sparked tensions, leading to Slot, his assistant Sipke Hulshoff, Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure all being sent off by referee Michael Oliver.

The English FA confirmed that an independent regulatory commission sanctioned both clubs, with Everton fined £65,000 and Liverpool £50,000. Slot admitted to improper conduct, acknowledging that his emotions got the better of him.

“I should have acted differently, but it’s an emotional sport. I made the wrong decision,” Slot said in a press conference after the incident.

With the ban only applying to domestic matches, Slot will be absent from the touchline for Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Newcastle on Wednesday and their FA Cup tie against Southampton on March 8. However, he will be free to lead the Reds in their Champions League showdown against PSG on March 5 and the League Cup final at Wembley on March 16.

Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League by 11 points, remain on course for a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.
