Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has delivered a passionate call to action, urging party members and Nigerians alike to stop fearing authority and speak out against the nation’s growing crisis.
Addressing party members during the ongoing National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Obi stressed that Nigeria is teetering on the brink of collapse. “Don’t fear anybody. Those who were afraid yesterday didn’t do any better,” he stated, emphasizing that the situation is critical and requires bold leadership. “We must speak out when things are going wrong. Nigeria is collapsing. The numbers are clear; the indices are clear—people are getting poorer every day.”
Obi also called for unity within the Labour Party, stressing that it’s a family that must include everyone. “Labour Party has chosen to be a family, and we must do everything as a family. It’s not about Peter Obi’s choice; it’s everyone’s choice. We want to build a party that is fair and just,” he added.
Looking ahead to future elections, Obi promised that the party would be fully prepared, presenting the best and most competent candidates for all levels of government. He also reiterated that loyalty and competence are key for anyone aspiring to run under the Labour Party’s banner. “We want to correct the mistakes we made in the past. Anyone seeking to contest under our party must be a committed member, not just someone passing through,” he said.
