In a moment as emotional as it is explosive, Nigerian music star Peter Okoye — popularly known as Mr P — has opened up about the pain of betrayal from within his own family, following his courtroom testimony against his elder brother, Jude Okoye.

Jude, along with his company Northside Music Limited, is currently facing serious money laundering charges to the tune of ₦1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. The case, filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is being heard at the Federal High Court in Lagos under Justice Alexander Owoeye.

Peter took the stand on Monday, detailing how he allegedly uncovered suspicious financial dealings involving Jude and a shadow company that bore a striking resemblance to Northside Entertainment Ltd — the original management outfit for the now-defunct music duo, P-Square.

But beyond the legal drama, Peter took to Instagram on Tuesday to express the emotional toll the experience has taken on him. In a heartfelt post to his story, he disowned what he described as a toxic family dynamic, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing mental health over blind loyalty.

“Don’t let ‘family’ be the reason you’re drowning in silence. I did – for over 20 years plus. And it almost cost me everything,” Peter wrote.
“Love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family does not steal from you. Real family doesn’t drain or shame you.”

He continued, saying:

“My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive.”

Peter further alleged in court that Jude, with help from his twin brother Paul Okoye (aka Rudeboy), used Northside Music Limited to launder money earned by P-Square, without his consent or access to the finances.

The revelations have not only stirred public conversation but also highlighted the often-hidden emotional battles behind fame and family legacies. For Peter, it seems the battle is not just about reclaiming money—but reclaiming peace.
