Students preparing for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can breathe a sigh of relief — the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has assured that no candidate will sit for the exam outside their state of registration.
This reassurance was given by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, in a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He explained that while some candidates had to travel to nearby states for the mock exams, this was simply because not all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres were available for the mock phase.
“For example, if Abuja’s mock centres are full and there’s space in Nasarawa, we assign candidates there. But this won’t happen in the main UTME,” Dr. Benjamin clarified.
According to him, all registered CBT centres will be operational during the main exam, meaning every candidate will take the test within their state of registration and residence.
He further emphasized that early registration plays a big role in securing a convenient centre. Once nearby centres are filled up, candidates may still be placed at available centres — but always within the same state.
Addressing complaints about the recent mock exam glitches, Benjamin acknowledged the issues and apologized for any inconvenience, noting that the mock was designed to test new features ahead of the main UTME.
“The mock exam helps us fine-tune new innovations and gives candidates a chance to get used to the CBT environment,” he said.
JAMB encouraged candidates to remain patient and focused, assuring them of a smoother, more efficient experience during the main UTME, scheduled to begin on April 25, 2025.
