Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed how a chance encounter with American R&B icon Chris Brown in 2018 changed the trajectory of his music career.
In a recent episode of the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, the Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer reflected on the unexpected way their connection began — all from a simple Facetime call.
Davido shared that it started when one of Chris Brown’s closest friends, who happened to be Nigerian, called him on Facetime from Brown’s house. In the background, Davido’s music was playing — and Chris was vibing to it.
“I was like, ‘Where are you? That’s my song playing!’” Davido recalled with excitement. “Then he said, ‘I’m at Chris Brown’s house.’ Next thing I know, he flips the camera and there’s Chris Brown dancing to my song.”
What followed was a brief conversation with the American star — but it wouldn’t be the last.
“That was the first time I ever spoke to him,” Davido continued. “A few months later, I travelled to America, we linked up, and the vibe was instant. From day one, it felt like we’d known each other for years.”
Their connection blossomed into more than just friendship. The duo has since collaborated on several successful tracks, including Blow My Mind and Shopping Spree, solidifying their musical bond across continents.
Davido’s revelation highlights the power of global collaborations and how one genuine connection can open doors and elevate careers beyond borders.
