Afrobeats star Mayorkun has finally cleared the air about his relationship with Davido and the status of his record deal with Davido Music Worldwide (DMW)—and fans can breathe easy: it’s all love.

In a recent chat on Arise TV, the “Certified Loner” hitmaker revealed that his contract with DMW quietly ended around four years ago, but despite parting ways professionally, his bond with Davido remains unshaken.

“My contract with DMW has been done for about 3 to 4 years, but I’m still with them,” Mayorkun shared. “After this interview, the next person I’ll be seeing is Davido.”

While their business relationship may have wrapped up, Mayorkun emphasized that Davido still feels like family. Their connection goes way back—Davido famously discovered Mayorkun on Twitter in 2016 after he posted a cover of the OBO’s track “The Money.” That viral moment changed everything.

Just months later, Mayorkun ditched his banking job to chase music full-time, launching his career under DMW with the breakout single “Eleko”—and the rest is history.

Now signed to Sony Music, Mayorkun revealed he’s been working under the global label for the past three years, with a new project already in the pipeline.

“My next project will be released under Sony,” he confirmed.

From underground discovery to becoming one of Nigeria’s top Afrobeats exports, Mayorkun’s journey proves that talent, timing, and good vibes really do pay off—and that even after contracts end, real friendships don’t expire.
