Former Benue State Governor and two-time senator, Gabriel Suswam, has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Friday by his media aide, Bede Bartholomew, Suswam described the speculation as false, baseless, and mischievous.
Reports had earlier circulated online claiming that the former governor would officially decamp to the APC during a state dinner hosted by Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi. However, his spokesperson clarified that Suswam’s attendance at the event had nothing to do with politics or party realignment.
“Moments ago, I received calls from well-meaning Benue citizens alerting me to trending news suggesting that Senator Suswam has joined the APC and will be received by Governor Alia this evening at the Government House Banquet Hall,” Bartholomew said.
“I debunk this unholy rumour with all vehemence. It does not represent the current interests of Senator Suswam or his supporters across the state.”
According to Bartholomew, the governor had simply extended an invitation to Suswam and other political stakeholders to attend a state banquet scheduled for October 10, 2025, and there was no mention of any political ceremony in the official invitation.
He stressed that as a former governor and key stakeholder in Benue, Suswam’s attendance was in the spirit of state unity, not partisan alignment.
“The former governor advises his supporters and well-wishers to disregard this rumour, as it is baseless, aimless, and a lie from the deepest pit of hell,” the statement concluded.
