President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major change in Nigeria’s military leadership to strengthen national security. The President made the announcement on October 23, 2025, describing the appointments as part of his plan to build a stronger and more professional Armed Forces.
Under the new arrangement, General Olufemi Oluyede becomes the Chief of Defence Staff. Major-General W. Shaibu takes charge as the Chief of Army Staff. Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke is now the Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas becomes the Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu thanked General Christopher Musa and other outgoing Service Chiefs for their dedication and service to the nation. He praised their leadership during difficult times and recognized their role in maintaining peace and order.
“I thank General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their dedicated service. I charge the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces,” President Tinubu said.
The President explained that these appointments are meant to bring new energy and focus to Nigeria’s security system. According to him, his administration is committed to modernizing the military and improving coordination among all branches.
Tinubu also called on the new Service Chiefs to promote discipline, accountability, and teamwork. He said their leadership should reflect integrity and full commitment to protecting every Nigerian.
