The newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Kabiru Turaki, has pledged to restore internal democracy within the party and ensure that the wishes of Nigerians are no longer suppressed.
Turaki made the commitment on Saturday in Ibadan while delivering his acceptance speech at the PDP’s 2025 elective national convention, where he emerged victorious with 1,516 votes, defeating his closest contender, Garuba Lado, who polled 41 votes.
He assured party members that the new leadership would not betray the trust placed in them, adding that the National Working Committee under his watch would be responsible, transparent, and responsive to the aspirations of party faithful.
“We will not take your confidence for granted,” Turaki said. “Impunity will have no place in the PDP, and the will of the Nigerian people will no longer be stifled. We will listen to you, understand your demands, and ensure that your expectations guide our actions.”
Turaki also promised that fairness, equity, and justice would form the foundation of the party’s new direction, stressing that the PDP was at a critical moment and required decisive leadership to overcome its challenges.
He announced that the new executives would immediately begin outreach to aggrieved members, with the aim of reconciling factions and bringing everyone back into the fold to protect Nigeria’s democracy from what he described as a looming crisis.
