President Donald Trump has introduced a new, expedited visa program for international fans traveling to the 2026 FIFA World Cup – but his administration has made clear that having a match ticket does not guarantee entry to the United States.
Announcing the initiative in the Oval Office, Trump appeared alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who hailed the new “FIFA Pass” service as a breakthrough for football fans worldwide.
“If you have a ticket to the World Cup, you can schedule a priority visa appointment,” Infantino explained, emphasizing that an estimated 5 to 10 million fans will travel to the United States next year for the historic tournament.
Trump, who has made the World Cup a highlight of his second term and a key part of the upcoming 250th anniversary of America’s independence, announced that fans should begin the visa process immediately.
“Those who intend to join us for the World Cup, apply now,” Trump said, promising a smooth process despite concerns that his tightened immigration rules could hinder travel for fans.
Rubio: “Your ticket is not your visa”
Standing beside Trump, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a warning to the company.
“Your ticket is not a visa,” Rubio emphasized. “It does not guarantee entry to the United States. It guarantees you an expedited visit—you’ll still go through the same background check.”
Under the FIFA Pass system, ticket holders should receive their visa within six to eight weeks, but Rubio urged applicants not to delay: “Don’t wait until the last minute.”
World Cup Preparations Amid Political Tensions
Although the United States has promised an unforgettable and productive World Cup, preparations remain overshadowed by political controversy. Trump has hinted at the possibility of moving matches from some host cities, citing concerns about rising crime and migration in some Democratic-led states.
Despite the tension, anticipation is mounting ahead of the official World Cup group draw, scheduled for December 5th in Washington, D.C., where FIFA will also announce a new World Peace Prize—with growing speculation that Trump himself could be the recipient.
As millions prepare for the world’s biggest sporting event, the message from Washington remains clear:
