The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the death of three of its personnel following an attack by gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa armed group in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The assailants reportedly launched the assault late Thursday night, targeting an NIS checkpoint at Bakin Ruwa. They opened fire on the officers on duty before torching a patrol vehicle and destroying the checkpoint structure.

Sources said the attack occurred around midnight, leaving the officers with no chance to defend themselves.

“Last night, gunmen believed to be Lakurawa militants attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service checkpoint in the Bakin Ruwa community of Bagudo LGA. Three officers were killed, the patrol vehicle was set ablaze, and the shelter was destroyed,” a source disclosed.

Confirming the incident on Friday, the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Sheriff Akinlabi, described the attack as a devastating loss to the Service.

“It is sad and unfortunate that we lost these gallant men. The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, along with all officers and men of the Service, commiserates with the families of these personnel who paid the supreme price in the course of their lawful duty,” he said.
