At least three suspected bandits planning a large-scale assault on communities within the Federal Capital Territory have been killed by operatives of the FCT Police Command. The Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, noting that the operation followed credible intelligence.

According to her, the breakthrough came after recent kidnapping incidents in ACO Community, Gwagwalada, and Bwari, which prompted the Commissioner of Police to direct the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to intensify efforts to dismantle the criminal network behind the attacks. Intelligence later revealed that the gang was preparing to launch another coordinated strike on an FCT community on or before December 1, 2025.

Acting on the tip-off, police operatives on Sunday apprehended one of the key masterminds, a wanted kidnapper and robbery suspect identified as Sani Mohammed Umar, popularly known as “Boko.” His mobile phone was described as the primary tool used to coordinate multiple attacks across Abuja. Adeh said officers then advanced into a forested area, ambushed the gang, and engaged them in a 30-minute gunfight, killing three members while others fled with gunshot wounds. Three AK-47 rifles, magazines and 33 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
