The Omala Local Government in Kogi has imposed a curfew from dusk till dawn and banned vigils, nighttime prayers, and public gatherings to address escalating security threats. Effective December 2, 2025, the curfew will be extended from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice. The government also ordered the immediate suspension of fireworks, nighttime religious devotions, and other nighttime social events.

Council President Edibo Mark stated that the decision was made due to the recent surge in kidnappings and violent attacks in the region. Security agencies have been mobilized to implement 24-hour patrols, checkpoints, and surveillance in all communities, particularly along the area’s border routes.

Residents have been urged to fully cooperate, comply with the curfew, and report any suspicious activity as part of a collective effort to restore security. Churches and mosques in the area have been ordered to shorten religious services and close early to avoid becoming targets of attacks.

This measure comes amid growing concerns about escalating insecurity in parts of Kogi State. Local authorities describe the curfew and ban on vigils as temporary but necessary measures to protect lives and restore order while security operations are intensified.
