The governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, approved the immediate dismissal of four advisors for their alleged involvement in the assault of a sitting councilor, following widespread public outrage.

The decision was made after the conclusion of investigations into the attack on Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, a councilor in the Shamaki district of Gombe Local Government Area.

The incident, which sparked intense controversy, involved a driver assigned to the governor’s chief of staff, Abubakar Inuwa Kari, who was captured on viral video physically assaulting the councilor in public.

In the footage, the councilor is seen sitting on his motorcycle when the driver repeatedly struck him, ignoring pleas from both the victim and bystanders to stop. The assailant reportedly became more aggressive and threatened anyone who tried to intervene.

At one point during the altercation, the driver was heard speaking in Hausa, questioning whether the councilman considered himself an equal to the Chief of Staff, an exchange that further fueled public condemnation.

In response to the incident, the governor’s spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, stated that the dismissals followed a report submitted by a special committee established to investigate the matter.

According to Misilli, the committee’s findings, corroborated by security agencies, were formally communicated to the governor by the State Government Secretary, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, leading to the decisive action.

Those dismissed are Adamu Abdullahi Danko, Senior Special Assistant II (National); Garba Mohammed Mai Rago, Senior Special Assistant II (Political); Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar, Senior Special Assistant II (Social Media); and Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya, Senior Special Assistant II (Community Relations).
