Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Wednesday arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja ahead of his official swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu.
Disu arrived at the State House at about 2:50 p.m. and is expected to meet with the President as part of the formal process marking his assumption of office. His presence at the Villa signals a major leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force.
His appointment followed the resignation of the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. In a statement released on Tuesday, the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation, citing urgent family considerations.
Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State, Disu holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University. He also earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, as well as a Master’s degree in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.
Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police after undergoing professional training at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State. Over the years, he has served in several strategic commands across the country.
His career includes stints as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. He also previously served as Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team and the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State.
Before his latest appointment, Disu was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.
His swearing-in is expected to formally usher in a new phase of leadership within the Nigeria Police Force amid rising national security concerns.
