The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government, Engr. Sunny Oche, has commenced decisive steps toward the constitution of a Peace and Reconciliation Committee following the unfortunate crisis between the Eza people residing in Apa Ugbozu and their Apa Agila counterparts. The committee will be tasked with conducting a thorough fact-finding exercise to uncover the root causes of the disturbances that led to a breakdown of law and order and the tragic loss of two lives.

In a firm demonstration of leadership and commitment to stability, the Chairman has deemed it necessary to assemble a broad-based committee comprising security chiefs, respected traditional rulers, women and youth leaders, as well as seasoned professionals. This body will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of restoring lasting peace, fostering dialogue, and promoting unity across the affected communities, while also working proactively to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.

Engr. Oche expressed deep concern and disappointment over the recent developments, noting that the situation runs contrary to the gains recorded during his administration’s early peace-building efforts. Within his first one hundred days in office, the Chairman had spearheaded engagements that brought relative calm to communities previously plagued by long-standing disputes. Notably, assurances of peaceful coexistence were secured from stakeholders in areas such as Ndobashi, Ulayi, Ngbo, and Apa Ugbozu some of which had endured unresolved tensions spanning over five decades.

The proposed committee is expected to go beyond surface-level interventions by engaging all relevant stakeholders and addressing the underlying issues holistically and sustainably. It will also embark on sensitisation campaigns across the Local Government Area to reinforce the values of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and lawful conduct among residents.

He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property while building a harmonious and cooperative environment. Engr. Oche further emphasised that peace remains non-negotiable and urged all residents to embrace dialogue, shun violence, and continue to live as good neighbours, conducting their affairs within the bounds of the law for the collective progress of Ado Local Government.
