Security forces on Monday rescued 16 people who had been kidnapped in Kogi State, according to reports issued in the evening.
In a separate development in the North-East, troops of the Nigerian military neutralised scores of terrorists in Borno State. The same forces also successfully repelled an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military base in the state.
Details of the circumstances surrounding the Kogi rescue, the identities of the victims, or the location of the operation were not immediately available in the initial reports. Similarly, official statements on the exact number of terrorists neutralised in Borno or the precise location of the military base that came under attack have not yet been released.
These operations form part of ongoing security efforts by Nigerian forces against kidnapping and insurgency in parts of the country. Further updates from security agencies are expected.
