Christians across Nigeria have joined millions of believers worldwide in celebrating Easter, marking one of the most important events in the Christian faith — the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The celebration followed weeks of Lenten observances, with churches holding special services filled with prayers, hymns, and messages centred on sacrifice, renewal, and hope.

Despite ongoing security challenges in parts of the country, including recent violence in Plateau State, many worshippers turned out in large numbers to observe the occasion.

Clergy across different denominations used the opportunity to call for peace, unity, and compassion, urging Nigerians to reflect deeply on the significance of the season.

Easter, widely regarded as a symbol of new beginnings, also served as a moment for many to extend support to vulnerable members of society, including widows and orphans.

In its Easter message, the Christian Association of Nigeria called on government authorities to address insecurity and ease the economic burden on citizens.

Religious leaders emphasised the need for collective responsibility, encouraging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to national unity, especially as the country prepares for future political developments.

Globally, Easter celebrations were also marked under tense conditions in parts of the Middle East, where ongoing conflict cast a shadow over the festivities.

At the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV led Easter Mass, delivering a message focused on peace and global unity, while urging an end to violence and division across nations.

The Easter period continues to serve as a reminder of resilience, faith, and the enduring hope for a better future, both in Nigeria and around the world.
