The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in Egypt while undergoing medical treatment, according to an official statement.
His death was confirmed by the Kebbi State Government, which said the lawmaker passed away on Monday. Details surrounding the nature of his illness were not immediately disclosed.
Zuru, who represented Zuru Constituency, was described by the state government as a committed public servant whose contributions to legislative governance would be remembered.
In its statement, the government expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that his death represents a significant setback for the state’s political leadership.
The late Speaker had been receiving treatment abroad prior to his passing. Officials did not specify how long he had been in Egypt or the exact circumstances leading to his death.
Tributes have begun to pour in from political associates and government officials, who acknowledged his role in promoting legislative activities and governance in Kebbi State.
Lawmakers and stakeholders within the state assembly are also expected to hold sessions in his honour.
Zuru’s death creates a leadership vacuum in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, with procedures for succession likely to be initiated in line with legislative rules.
