Ghana Launches App to Help Citizens Verify Marital Status of Partners

The Ghanaian government has launched an application designed to enable citizens to verify the marital status of prospective partners before entering marriage.

The application, known as Marrify, was launched by Ghana’s Ministry of Gender in partnership with MarryRight, an agency specialising in family law and marriage.

Speaking at the launch, Ghana’s Minister of Gender, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said the platform would enable prospective couples to make more informed decisions about marriage.

Lartey said the initiative was also intended to promote relationships founded on respect and contribute to efforts to address gender-based violence.

She added that Marrify would encourage people considering marriage to approach the decision with greater awareness and responsibility.

The launch comes as the government seeks to provide citizens with a means of obtaining information about a prospective partner’s marital status before making a commitment to marriage
