BREAKING: Gov Alia Approves ₦2.3bn for BSUTH Workers’ Arrears, Salary Allowances

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the release of ₦2.3 billion to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, to settle outstanding financial obligations inherited from the previous administration and implement revised allowances for healthcare workers.

The funding covers outstanding arrears from the administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom, as well as revised allowances approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, effective July 2024.

Under the intervention, members of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), nurses and other categories of healthcare workers are expected to benefit from the implementation of the approved remuneration adjustments.

The funds will also cover annual step increments, the 2026 staff promotion exercise, revised uniform allowances, CONMESS relativity for MDCAN and ARD members, and specialist allowances for resident doctors.

A major component of the intervention is the alignment of BSUTH workers’ remuneration with corresponding entitlements in federal government teaching hospitals and other federal health institutions.

The development is expected to improve staff welfare, strengthen financial stability among healthcare professionals and address outstanding obligations that have affected various categories of workers at the institution.

Beyond settling arrears, the funding is expected to boost staff morale and contribute to a more conducive working environment, reinforcing the importance of improved welfare in sustaining effective healthcare delivery.
