In a jaw-dropping performance at the Dubai Tennis Championships, 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva shocked world No. 2 Iga Swiatek with a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory to book her spot in the semi-finals.
Andreeva, the youngest player ever to reach the last four in Dubai, showed maturity beyond her years. After trailing 3-1 in the second set, she roared back with five straight games to defeat the four-time Grand Slam champion in just 96 minutes.
“I was really nervous before the match,” Andreeva admitted. “I played Iga in Cincinnati last year, and it was intense. This time, I just told myself to stay aggressive and go for my shots.”
With this win, Andreeva continues her meteoric rise, having now beaten both of the world’s top two players in the past year—she previously toppled No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka at the French Open.
The fearless teenager is now set for a semi-final clash against either Elena Rybakina or Sofia Kenin, proving that she’s not just a rising star—she’s here to stay.
