What Happened?

City were knocked out of the Champions League play-off stage after a 6-3 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday. Despite the disappointment, Guardiola remained positive, acknowledging Madrid’s superiority and emphasizing City’s progress over the years.

Pep Guardiola’s Reaction

Speaking to Movistar, Guardiola said:
“Yes, yes, yes, I’m going to stay [at City]. We faced a very strong opponent at the best moment of their season. When the opposition is superior, you have to congratulate them. Ten or twelve years ago, we weren’t even in the picture. This is a competition full of fine details and emotions, and I have very few complaints about how we’ve performed in Europe.”

The Bigger Picture

With City now facing the prospect of a trophyless season for the first time since 2017, Guardiola remains focused on rebuilding and regaining their dominance. Having signed a contract extension until 2027, he is determined to steer the club back to glory, even if a significant squad overhaul may be needed.
