Nigerian-American NFL star Moro Ojomo has credited his Nigerian upbringing as the driving force behind his rise to Super Bowl champion status.
Upon arriving at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman spoke passionately about how his heritage and values played a crucial role in his success.
Ojomo made history on February 9, 2025, when he helped the Eagles secure a dominant 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, marking the franchise’s fifth NFL championship.
Addressing reporters in Lagos, Ojomo urged Nigerians to embrace opportunities and stay determined in their pursuit of success.
“My drive and motivation come from my Nigerian upbringing,” he said. “The values of hard work, education, and resilience that I grew up with helped me excel on the biggest stage.”
He highlighted the increasing presence of Nigerians in American football and emphasized the sport as a pathway for young Nigerians to access education and global recognition.
“There are so many Nigerians thriving in the NFL. The key is to create opportunities for our youth because American football can open doors to scholarships, college degrees, and a chance to put Nigeria on the world map.”
Reflecting on his journey, Ojomo revealed that while he dabbled in soccer and basketball, it was football that ultimately propelled him to greatness.
He left a message of encouragement for Nigerians: “Believe in yourself. Nigerians are great. Take advantage of every opportunity and never let anyone discourage you.”
