The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has reaffirmed its preparedness to conduct the 2025 local government elections, promising a smooth and credible electoral process across the state.
LASIEC Chairman, retired Justice Bola Ighile, made this known during a visit to Ikorodu Local Government on Thursday, where she engaged with LG Chairman Wasiu Adesina to discuss election preparations.
As part of its strategy to ensure high voter turnout, Ighile announced that LASIEC will launch a voter education campaign to guide residents, particularly those who have relocated, on how to update their voter information. She urged Lagosians to visit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal for necessary updates before election day to avoid any last-minute issues.
“The commission is committed to ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their franchise. We will organize orientation programs to educate the public on the voting process and encourage massive participation,” Ighile stated.
In response, Ikorodu LG Chairman, Wasiu Adesina, expressed confidence in the commission’s plans and assured that the local government is also making arrangements to facilitate a seamless election.
“Ikorodu has always maintained a track record of safe, hitch-free, and credible elections, and my administration will continue this legacy. We are committed to ensuring that every resident has the opportunity to vote without any challenges,” Adesina said.
He also encouraged aspirants to approach the election with a spirit of sportsmanship rather than seeing it as a “do-or-die” affair. Additionally, he urged residents who are yet to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so, revealing that the council will provide mini-buses to transport voters from remote areas to their polling units.
The visit is part of LASIEC’s familiarization tour across local government areas in preparation for the upcoming elections. Earlier in the year, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the new LASIEC leadership team, with Justice Bola Ighile at the helm, to oversee the smooth execution of the electoral process.
With these proactive measures, Lagos is setting the stage for a transparent and inclusive local government election in 2025.
