A pro-Siminalayi Fubara group, the Supreme Council for Sim Worldwide, has issued a stark warning against any attempt to impeach the Rivers State governor, stressing that such a move could spark massive unrest across the state.
In a press briefing on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the group’s leader, Esezi Obilor Rukani, cautioned the 27 lawmakers pushing for Fubara’s removal to reconsider their actions. He warned that the people of Rivers State would not tolerate any attempt to oust their elected governor.
“We all know how impeachment works. Before the process even begins, Rivers will boil because Governor Fubara is a man of the people,” Rukani declared. “The people who voted for these lawmakers will rise up if they try to remove him. They’ll have something to say to them.”
Rukani’s comments follow calls from Rivers State APC chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, for the governor’s resignation or impeachment, citing alleged violations of the rule of law. Okocha also warned legislators involved in the impeachment bid that they risk facing a recall from their constituents.
“The governor may not retaliate, but the people who voted for these lawmakers will,” Rukani added. “They did not send you there to cause chaos. If you continue, expect to be recalled by your constituents.”
He further defended Fubara’s leadership, noting that the governor’s simplicity should not be mistaken for weakness. “If Fubara were like others who thrive on conflict, Rivers State would already be in turmoil. But because he is a man of peace, he has managed to maintain stability,” Rukani explained.
Rukani also questioned the reasons behind calls for Fubara’s resignation, insisting that the governor had committed no crime. “What crime has he committed that warrants these calls for his resignation?” he asked, criticizing those who sought his removal without providing clear justification.
The group reaffirmed their full support for Governor Fubara, declaring that any attempt to remove him from office would be met with strong resistance from the people. “We are not just concerned with this first term; we are preparing for his second term,” Rukani said. “Whether people like it or not, the governor will complete his first term in good health. He is a God-sent leader who has achieved what others couldn’t.”
Ambassador Joshua Fubara, the group’s Convener and National Leader, also voiced his support for the governor, praising his achievements. “Governor Fubara has accomplished so much in a short time. He’s promoted civil servants and launched vital projects like the Port Harcourt Ring Road and Trans-Kalahari Road,” he said.
He dismissed the impeachment calls as baseless and urged all political factions to unite for the state’s progress. “We must focus on unity for the good of Rivers State,” he added, warning that instability in the state could have national consequences. “Rivers is a major economic hub for Nigeria, and any crisis here will affect the entire nation.”
As tensions rise over the potential impeachment, the group’s message is clear: any attempt to remove Governor Fubara will face fierce resistance, and the stability of Rivers State remains paramount.
