After a harrowing week in captivity, nine abducted surveyors in Ondo State have finally regained their freedom—but not without a hefty price. The victims, who were kidnapped while on site in Ilu-Abo, Akure North, were released after a ransom of N20 million was paid to their captors.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded N100 million, but after intense negotiations and pleas from market women, they reluctantly settled for N50 million—before finally agreeing to accept N20 million.
Their release was confirmed by Pastor Ajibade Owolanke, brother to the Ejemikin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo. The victims have now reunited with their families and are receiving medical care at various hospitals in the state.
The abduction sparked outrage in Akure, leading to mass protests by market women and youths, who urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and security agencies to tackle the rising wave of insecurity in the state.
This incident adds to growing concerns over the worsening security situation in Ondo, with residents demanding swift government intervention.
