The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), of executing a secret agenda aimed at extending his tenure beyond the initial six-month mandate.
CUPP’s National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, voiced these concerns during a phone interview on Thursday, criticizing Ibas’ recent political maneuvers, including the dismissal of political appointees and fresh appointments within the state’s governance structure.
“His appointment was unconstitutional from the start, a direct assault on democracy,” Ameh stated. “Now, instead of focusing on security—the reason he was supposedly brought in—he’s making decisions that suggest he wants to hold onto power longer than intended.”
According to Ameh, Ibas’ actions contradict the mandate he was given, as he appears to be restructuring the political landscape rather than stabilizing security.
“The people of Rivers State elected a governor, but what they got was an imposed leadership. Now, this imposed leader is reshuffling key government positions, which raises serious questions about the real agenda behind his appointment,” he added.
CUPP has called for the immediate restoration of democratic governance in Rivers State, warning that any further political interference could deepen the existing crisis.
