The Federal Government has clarified that the recent shooting of a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer near a Chinese company in Niger State was not an intentional act ordered by any expatriate.
In an updated statement on Friday, Babatunde Alao, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Interior, emphasized that the officer was hit by a stray bullet, dismissing earlier speculations that a Chinese company or its employee was responsible.
The government has since launched a full-scale investigation in collaboration with security agencies to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
“This investigation will ensure that all facts are laid bare, and anyone found culpable will be brought to justice,” the statement read.
The Minister of Interior also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting law enforcement officers while supporting law-abiding businesses in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong partnerships with foreign nationals to foster sustainable socio-economic development.
