In a powerful statement, the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, declared that his ancestors brought Governor Monday Okpebholo to restore the lost glory of Edo State. This remark was made during a historic visit by the governor to the Oba’s palace in Benin, following his victory at the Edo Governorship Election Tribunal, which affirmed his election as the state’s governor.
The Oba described Okpebholo as a true son of the land and called upon his ancestors to bless the governor and his family for withstanding the efforts of those seeking to undermine Edo State. In a rare and symbolic gesture, Oba Ewuare II lifted Governor Okpebholo from his kneeling position, foretelling that the governor’s leadership would bring unprecedented development to the state.
Speaking in Edo language, the Oba said, “It shall be well with you, your wife, and your children. Your journey to Edo was approved by our ancestors. They brought you to restore Edo’s lost glory, which evil forces tried to destroy. We have been praying for you, and we will continue to pray for you, that you do not let these evil forces destroy our land.”
Governor Okpebholo expressed his gratitude to the Oba, acknowledging the royal support and prayers. He described the tribunal’s ruling as a “historic” and “sweetest judgment ever,” noting that for the first time, all three judges on the panel unanimously agreed that he had won the election.
“This is the first time we’ve seen a judgment where all the judges agreed that Monday Okpebholo won the election,” the governor said, reflecting on the landmark legal decision that affirmed his position as Edo’s rightful leader.
The support from the Oba of Benin and the ancestral blessing has further strengthened the governor’s resolve to bring lasting progress and development to Edo State.
