Court Blocks Pro-Wike Rally in Bayelsa Ahead of April 12 Event

A Bayelsa State High Court has temporarily halted the planned pro-Wike rally scheduled for April 12, 2025 in Yenagoa, the state capital, following a legal challenge. The court issued an injunction on Thursday, restraining associates of Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, and rally organizers from holding the event until further hearings.

The court order, granted by Hon. Justice I.A. Uzakah, comes after a motion filed by Bayelsa’s Attorney General, Biriyai Dambo SAN, in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025. The rally, organized by the NEW Associates group and spearheaded by George Turnah, was planned to show support for Wike.

The court’s interim injunction prohibits the first and second defendants, including Turnah and Wike, from conducting or participating in any political assembly in the state related to the event. This order also applies to their agents, associates, or any person acting on their behalf.

The case has been adjourned to April 11, 2025, for further hearings, as the legal process continues to unfold.
